I know I am way late, but never discount the 318. Plenty of options to make it one screaming motor. Aside from the 4.0 straight 6, the 318 will go down as one of Chrysler's most reliable engine, and seeing that it shares the same block with the 273 Commando, 340, and 360 there are still plenty of support for them. That 0-60 time can be brought down quite a bit, but as Adam said, don't use it to judge if something is wrong or not. When I had my overdrive turned off, and I shifted manually (1,2,D) I could consistently get 6.9-7.2 0-60 time on a motor with all stock internals.
Bottom line, have fun with it, it is a strong reliable motor that appreciates subtle bolt on mods. Glad you got the plenum situated. It's a fun and easy motor to work on!
