My PS3 Took a giant one on me
Yup it just took a huge shit on me, thanks for that! It wouldnt recognize any discs in it, and then I decided to see if there was an update for it, and there was, but it checks all the hardware when it updates and it will not get past the bluray drive check, and keeps restarting the update, there is nothing I can do unfortunately.
So keep an eye out for a PS3 for 200 or less for me, thanks!

My son in law had a PS3 that over heated. It was going to cost the same to repair it as it was to buy a new one.

I haven't had that, I have had the yellow light of death or overheating and fixed it myself for less than 6.00. Can you back up your stuff at all? You can plug it in to another ps3 or external hdd and copy all of your saves and data utility the format the disk to see if that helps. It's a lot of waiting but it may save you a couple hundo.

There are videos on YouTube. The YLOD is caused by the shit job Sony did on the thermal Paste on the CPU and GPU allowing the solder to overheat and the chips to separate from the board. You will have to totally take the ps3 apart to the mother board, which I think is cool shit. and clean off the old thermal paste, use a heat gun to remelt the solder, maybe add some flux and the re apply thermal paste(best buy or radio shack), and put it all back together. Sound like a lot but I got to fixing friend and could do it all in 30 min and that's with 15 minutes for the board to cool after using the heat gun.
